Title: What is the best Process Model for IT Management ?

Abstract: The world is plenty of process models, frameworks and standards. There are several institutes and some companies that are working on similar models/standards. The Software Productivity Consortium has studied the most relevant to companies building software-intensive systems. With this work in mind we go to the discussion. How to select the best process model, framework or standard to follow ? They have different purposes (although sometimes very similar) and applications. We will discuss a bit the COBIT, ITIL, SPICE and TickIT, their purposes, advantages and target organizations. We invite you to join this discussion.

Brief CVs:

Rafael Gomes works at IT department of TMN (mobile operator) dealing with IT process modeling. He worked before as SEPG member for Alcatel TMN (Telecomunications Management Network) development team.

Rui Bastos is the Country Leader of the TSRS (Technology & Security Risk Services) practice in Portugal. He has spent 9 years with Ernst & Young's TSRS practices in South Africa and Portugal. He has significant consulting experience applying the CobIT model in various industries and project contexts. He has also been responsible for training all E&Y staff in Portugal on the application and implementation of CobIT.

Han van Loon works as a consultant at SynSpace AG in Switzerland with clients in financial, insurance, systems and software engineering, and space industries. He has worked within high quality maturity organisations in Australia, Asia and Europe, who are leading industry competitors and winners of multiple quality awards.

Kevin has over 25 years experience in the IT Industry, with particular involvement in software development and quality management (ISO9001/TickIT) and more recently with software process assessment using models such as the Capability Maturity Model (CMM) and SPICE (ISO15504). He is a Lead ISO9001/TickIT Auditor and performs formal assessments for an international Certification Body.
