Heading towards its 5th edition,
QUATIC is considered a reference event in what
concerns the discussion and fostering of Quality
in Information and Communication Technologies
(ICTs). The event is promoted by the Commission
for Quality in ICTs (CS03). CS03 operates
in the realm of Instituto
Português Qualidade (IPQ) and is
formed by a considerable number of public and
private organizations with activities in ICTs.
The
previous QUATIC
meetings took place in 1994 and 1995 (Lisbon),
1998 (Guimarães) and 2001 (Lisbon). QUATIC'2004
will consolidate this initiative and, once again,
join the industry and academia communities to
foster the cross-fertilization of experiences
and knowledge among them, thus providing a rewarding
learning experience to all the participants and,
through them, to their organizations.
In
the 2001
edition, QUATIC had its first step towards
becoming an international event, by allowing the
submission of communications both in Portuguese
and in Spanish. This innovation led to a considerable
participation of delegates from Spain and Latin
America, in particular from Brasil. In the 2004
edition, QUATIC will undergo its 2nd and final
internationalization phase, by opening the event
to communications in English, as well.
Another
interesting characteristic of this year's event
and its internationalization is the proximity
with a major international conference: UML'2004.
UML'2004 will take place in Portugal, on the week
just before QUATIC'2004. This will allow participants
coming from abroad to attend both conferences
with just one trip. To learn more about UML'2004,
